A mental health care plan provided through a GP lets you claim up to 10 sessions with a mental health professional each calendar year through Medicare. Rebates are available for $141.85 per session. Alternatively, some private health insurance companies provide rebates depending on your health fund and your level of cover.
-
Following your appointment we will issue you with a receipt for you to claim your rebate with either Medicare or your health insurance provider.
If you have a valid MHCP from your doctor you can claim a Medicare rebate of $141.85 for each therapy session. Up to 10 rebates can be claimed per calendar year.
Your out-of-pocket cost will be further reduced if you reach the threshold for the Medicare Safety Net scheme.

You do not require a referral if you are not claiming Medicare Rebates. Book an appointment with your GP. You will need to ask for a long consultation or tell the receptionist that you specifically require a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) and a referral letter. You can ask for a referral to a specific psychologist or a specific psychology practice. Your GP will discuss your concerns and may also ask you to fill out a brief questionnaire. Bring your referral and MHCP with you to your first appointment.

Whilst we understand there are good reasons for cancellations, filling a 50+ minute session with short notice is very difficult. We will take into account your personal circumstances, however if cancelled less than 24 hours of your appointment time, a cancellation fee may be incurred.
